1

Daniel 1

Nebuchadnezzar's army besieges Jerusalem and captures some of its treasures, including vessels from God's house. The king selects four young Israelites, including Daniel, to be trained in Babylonian wisdom and language. The youths are given a special diet and education, but Daniel refuses to eat the king's meat or drink his wine.

Daniel 2

Nebuchadnezzar has a troubling dream that his magicians and astrologers cannot interpret. Daniel requests time to reveal the interpretation, which he receives through divine revelation. He explains the dream as a vision of four kingdoms rising and falling, with God's kingdom ultimately prevailing.

Daniel 3

King Nebuchadnezzar builds a golden image and commands all to worship it, but three Jewish leaders, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, refuse. They are thrown into a fiery furnace, but miraculously survive unharmed with the presence of an angel. The king is amazed and converts to their God.

Daniel 4

Nebuchadnezzar has a dream about a tree that grows strong but is eventually cut down by a heavenly being. Daniel interprets the dream, warning Nebuchadnezzar that he will be driven from men and live with beasts for seven years until he acknowledges God's rule. The chapter concludes with Nebuchadnezzar's actual experience of being driven mad and eating grass like an ox.

Daniel 5

King Belshazzar holds a lavish feast in his palace, using sacred vessels taken from Jerusalem's temple to drink wine with his nobles. However, during the celebration, a mysterious hand appears and writes an ominous message on the wall. The king is unable to interpret the writing and seeks the help of Daniel, who ultimately reveals its meaning.

Daniel 6

Daniel is appointed to a high position by King Darius, but his rivals seek to find fault with him. They accuse him of praying to another god, which is against the king's decree. Daniel is thrown into a den of lions, but his God delivers him.

Daniel 7

Daniel has a series of apocalyptic visions that depict four beasts rising from the sea, each representing different kingdoms or empires. The fourth beast is particularly terrifying and oppressive, but ultimately God intervenes and establishes an everlasting kingdom for His people. Jesus Christ is revealed as the Son of Man who receives dominion and glory.

Daniel 8

Daniel sees a ram with two horns that push westward, northward, and southward, symbolizing a powerful empire. However, an he goat with one notable horn between its eyes attacks the ram, breaking its horns and rising to power. A little horn then emerges from the four winds of heaven, growing great and casting down some of the host of heaven.

Daniel 9

Daniel prays for Jerusalem's restoration, confessing Israel's sins and asking God to forgive them. He then receives a vision from Gabriel about the timing of Jesus' coming and the duration of Israel's punishment. The vision includes a timeline of 70 weeks, during which God will finish sinning and bring in eternal righteousness.

Daniel 10

Daniel has a vision of an angelic being who takes him on a journey to understand the future. The angel explains that Daniel's prayers have been heard and that he is now sent to reveal what will happen to his people in the latter days. However, the angel's mission is hindered by the prince of Persia, but Michael helps him.

Daniel 11

The chapter describes a series of future events involving the kingdoms of Persia and Greece, with a focus on the rise and fall of various kings. A powerful king from the north will conquer many territories, but ultimately be defeated by a coalition of forces led by the king of the south. The chapter also mentions the desecration of the holy covenant and the persecution of those who follow God.

Daniel 12

The angel Michael will protect God's people during a time of great trouble, but they will be delivered. Some who sleep in the dust will awaken to eternal life or shame, while the wise will shine like stars forever. The book is sealed until the end times, when knowledge and understanding will increase.
