Ruth 1
Naomi's husband Elimelech dies while living in Moab, leaving Naomi and their two sons. After ten years, both sons die as well, leaving Naomi alone with her daughters-in-law Orpah and Ruth. Naomi encourages the women to return to their own families, but Ruth insists on staying with her.
Ruth 2
Ruth goes to a nearby field to gather leftover grain, where she meets Boaz, a relative of Naomi's late husband. Boaz shows kindness to Ruth, offering her food and protection from the other reapers. Ruth returns home with a significant amount of barley, which she shares with her mother-in-law.
Ruth 3
Naomi advises Ruth to go down to the threshing floor and uncover Boaz's feet while he is asleep. Ruth follows her mother-in-law's instructions and Boaz awakens, recognizing Ruth as a virtuous woman. He offers her six measures of barley and promises to do the part of a kinsman if his nearer relative refuses.
Ruth 4
Boaz, a relative of Naomi's late husband, purchases the land from her and also takes Ruth as his wife to raise up the name of her deceased husband in their family line. The kinsman who had the right to purchase the land declines, citing that it would damage his own inheritance. Boaz then marries Ruth and they have a son, Obed.
