Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle

The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle represents the Catholic Church across a region extending from Lake Macquarie to Taree and inland to Merriwa and Murrurundi in New South Wales. The Diocese covers 10 local government areas with approximately 150,000 Catholics organized into 37 parishes. Led by Bishop Michael Kennedy, the ninth Bishop installed in March 2023, the Diocese provides pastoral, educational, social welfare, housing and community development services through its parishes, schools, early education centres, and agencies including CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning, Catholic Community Fund, St Nicholas Early Education, and Hunter Community Housing. The Diocese is committed to fostering a welcoming environment centered on faith in Jesus Christ and serving those in need through worship, education, and community support.
