Wollongong, New South Wales

St Michael's Anglican Cathedral operates one church with two sites in Wollongong and Corrimal, New South Wales, with six Sunday congregations and multiple gatherings throughout the week. The cathedral was established in the Illawarra in 1826 when the Church of England arrived with a military detachment. The present cathedral building, designed by renowned ecclesiastical architect Edmund Blacket, had its foundation stone laid in 1858 and was consecrated by Bishop Barker in 1859 in the name of St Michael the Archangel. The church provides various service formats including traditional Anglican worship, contemporary services, Easy English services for multicultural communities, and specialized services for the elderly. Growth groups meet throughout the week for Bible study and prayer, and the church maintains historical family records available through digitized registers.
