Bishops House, Diocese of Cairns

Cairns, Queensland

The Catholic Diocese of Cairns is a broad and diverse region covering 377,000 square kilometres across Far North Queensland, stretching from Cardwell in the south to Cape York and the Torres Strait Islands in the north. The Diocese serves 23 parishes and parish clusters through bishops, priests, and deacons, supporting 27 schools and colleges across three deaneries. Led by Bishop Joe Caddy, the Diocese exists to spread the joy of the gospel, celebrate faith, and support the community. Its mission encompasses five pastoral priorities: enabling full participation in church life, fostering welcoming communities, reaching out to young people, ensuring awareness of mission and evangelisation, and strengthening Catholic Education Services, Centacare, and diocesan administrative agencies. The Diocese's patroness is Mary, Mother of Good Counsel, chosen by Augustinian Fathers who first arrived in the region in 1884.
