St George's Cathedral, Southwark is the Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral Church and the seat of the Archbishop of Southwark, located in the heart of London, England. The cathedral building was originally designed by Victorian architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin and was considered the most important Catholic Church in England when built. The cathedral serves as a house of prayer and place of worship for a wide and varied congregation, offering Mass, confession, quiet prayer spaces, celebrations, and comfort for those grieving. The site was established in 1839 when Fr Thomas Doyle purchased part of St George's Fields and engaged Pugin as the architect.
