St John Paul II Catholic Parish serves the communities of Eccles, Manchester and surrounding areas including Barton Moss, Monton, Patricroft, Peel Green, Winton and parts of Worsley. The parish was formed on 29 November 2018 from the amalgamation of four former parishes: Holy Cross, St Matthew and St Gilbert in Eccles, and St Mary in Eccles. It is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Salford. Masses are celebrated at two churches: Holy Cross on Liverpool Road in Patricroft and St Mary's on Oxford Street in Eccles. Holy Cross can accommodate 500 people. The parish priest is Fr Martin Collins, appointed in November 2018. The parish describes itself as large, busy and family-friendly, welcoming parishioners from many different cultures and backgrounds. Most Masses from Holy Cross are broadcast online via the parish website, Facebook and YouTube.
