Greek Orthodox Community of the Annunciation

The Greek Orthodox Community of the Annunciation is a parish of the Ecumenical Patriarchate located in Middlesbrough, England, serving under the blessing of His Eminence Nikitas, Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain. As of January 2024, the community is served by Fr Nikita Banev. The church was founded by Greek Cypriot families who came to work in Teesside 50 years ago and traces its Christian tradition back to St Paul's preaching in Greece and Cyprus. Services are conducted primarily in English with some readings and chants in Greek and Church Slavonic. The community includes faithful from over 15 countries. The congregation worships in the Lady Chapel at the east end of the Church of St Columba on Wilson Street, following a unique sharing arrangement with the Anglican Diocese of York since 1996.
