Pear Tree Church Hall

Southampton, England

Pear Tree Church in Southampton is the oldest Anglican Church built and consecrated after the Reformation in England, constructed in 1618 and consecrated in 1620. The church celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2021, delayed one year due to the COVID pandemic. Pear Tree Church and St Mark's Church in Woolston serve the people of Southampton together. The Jesus Chapel, also known as St Mary-Over-The-Water, was the first church since the Reformation to be consecrated using a new Anglican service specially written by Lancelot Andrewes, Bishop of Winchester, in September 1620. Both churches receive no government or local authority support and rely on financial donations for maintenance and ministry.
