Ponpally St George Jacobite Syrian Church

Ponpally St George Jacobite Syrian Church is located in Nattasserry, Kottayam, Kerala. The church was founded on October 27, 1907, with a mission to serve the society and church. It was established after the predecessors of the community had to travel to other churches in the region for Sunday worship. The first church building was constructed in 1898, located approximately 150 meters from the current site. The second and current church building, a thatched structure, was completed in 1907 after nine years of construction. The inaugural Holy Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Alaxanthrayose Mattackal. The church is dedicated to St George the Martyr, also known as Mor Geevarghese Sahada. The land was granted by Mr. Kurian Itty of Thekkunkal Tharavaadu and was registered under 56 founding members in 1897.
