St. Elias Syrian Orthodox Simhasana Church

St. Elias Syrian Orthodox Simhasana Church in Chennai is the first congregation of Jacobite Syrian Christians established in the land of St. Thomas. Founded in 1936 by Late Lamented Mor Yulios Elias Metropolitan at St. Matthias Church, Vepery, it was created to serve the spiritual needs of Syrian Orthodox faithful in Madras and nearby areas. The congregation represents a legacy of Syrian Christian diaspora settled near Mylapore since the 1930s. Currently governed by His Grace Osthatheos Mor Isaac, the Metropolitan of the Mylapore Diocese under the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, the church is located in central Chennai, approximately 2 kilometers from the central railway station and metro station. Service times are scheduled to accommodate IT professionals, nurses, students, and others working in the city.
