Saint Alphonsa Shrine Church is located in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu. The church conducts daily mass and is dedicated to St. Alphonsa, who was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1986. St. Alphonsa was born prematurely and decided to become a nun after reading St. Therese's biography. She received the Veil of Postulant on 2nd August 1928 and took her perpetual vows on 12th August 1936. She passed away on 28th July 1946. The church operates St. Alphonsa Academy for Excellence, established in 2000 as the Alphonsa Cultural Academy to develop cultural talents in students through various competitions. The academy has been conducting competitions for 23 years, attracting participants from various schools, arts colleges, and engineering colleges across Kanyakumari district and other districts.
