The Catholic Diocese of Awka is located in Awka, Anambra State within the Ecclesiastical province of Onitsha. Established on November 10, 1977 during Pope John Paul II's pontificate and inaugurated on February 5, 1978, the diocese was carved from the Onitsha Archdiocese. Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor serves as the current Catholic Bishop. The diocese's mission focuses on evangelizing through spiritual and material empowerment for God's glory and salvation of souls. The vision emphasizes integral human development and spiritual empowerment enabling fullness of life through Jesus Christ. The diocese operates St. Patrick's Cathedral and undertakes various projects including a proposed secondary school in Isiagu, Fides Media Station for radio and television broadcasting, a youth village development, and a School of Nursing with teaching hospital facilities.
