City of the Lord

City of the Lord is a Catholic, charismatic, lay community based in Tempe, Arizona. Members are called to a covenant relationship with God and one another. The community emerged in the 1960s in response to Catholic charismatic renewal and emphasizes three core values: living life together as a committed community, living in the power of the Holy Spirit with active spiritual gifts, and living under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The community is recognized by the Catholic Church as a legitimate expression of renewal. Members commit to personal prayer, community worship characterized by openness to the Holy Spirit, and personal formation in faith. City of the Lord operates multiple branches including Arizona, Southern California, San Diego, and Los Angeles districts, with leadership coordinating community activities, worship, and spiritual development across locations.
