Mission Dolores, officially Misión San Francisco de Asís, is the oldest building in San Francisco, founded June 29, 1776, under Father Junipero Serra's direction. It is both the oldest original intact mission in California and the birthplace of San Francisco. The parish comprises the Basilica and the Old Mission, reflecting the remarkable diversity of modern San Francisco. Located at the intersection of 16th and Dolores Streets, Mission Dolores serves as a central place in the religious, civic, and cultural life of San Francisco. The mission welcomes all visitors and parishioners from numerous cultures and backgrounds. The Old Mission, Giftshop, Museum, Cemetery, and Basilica are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. As a welcoming Catholic community, the parish is called by God to live out the message of Christ in love and service to all people.
