St. Photios Shrine Greek Orthodox National Shrine

St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine is a Greek Orthodox institution located in St. Augustine, Florida, operated by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. The Shrine is dedicated to the first Greek colony to arrive in America in 1768. It is situated near St. Augustine's historic city gates on St. George Street. The facility features the St. Photios Chapel, decorated with Byzantine style frescoes, and a historic museum with exhibits depicting the lives of early Greeks in America and the development of the Greek Orthodox Church in America. The museum contains artifacts, photographs, and historical documents related to the First Greek Colony in the New World. The Shrine is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Visitors can tour the chapel and museum exhibits, and participate in the candle-lighting tradition that began in 1982, where candles are lit in memory of ancestors who came to America.
