Holy Cross Church

Holy Cross Church is a Roman Catholic parish located in South Bend, Indiana. The parish was formally founded in 1929 following a September 1928 meeting of 200 people at Muessel School. The church building, constructed in 1949, features Italian Romanesque architecture finished in Mankato stone with a red tile roof. The interior contains eleven types of marble from around the world, including Carrara marble used for statues of the Blessed Virgin, Death of St. Joseph, Pieta, and Sacred Heart. The cornerstone, laid in May 1929, contains a relic of the true cross of Christ. The church was built to seat over one thousand people. Holy Cross also operates a grade school, established in 1929 with 161 initial students.
