St. Joseph Oratory

St. Joseph Oratory is a sacred edifice in Portland, Maine dedicated to the celebration of the usus antiquior, the more ancient form of the Roman Rite, and the fullness of the Church's sacred liturgy. Erected by decree of the Bishop of Portland in July 2025 as a public juridic person of diocesan right, it is housed in the historic Church of St. Joseph, dedicated in 1931. Built in fourteenth-century English Gothic architecture, the church features Indiana limestone construction on a granite foundation, massive oak doors bound in hand-hammered iron, and a serene figure of the Blessed Mother and Christ Child above the portal. The Oratory is dedicated to reverent celebration of the traditional Roman liturgy, formation and catechesis rooted in Catholic tradition, and works of mercy. The Very Reverend Kyle L. Doustou, Vicar General of the Diocese of Portland, serves as the Oratory's first Rector.
