Carmelite Chapel in the Northshore Mall
Peabody, Massachusetts
The Carmelite Chapel in the Northshore Mall is located in Lynn, Massachusetts and serves as a Catholic chapel within a shopping mall. It was originally dedicated by Cardinal Richard Cushing on January 28, 1960, as the first Catholic chapel in a U.S. shopping mall, though the website states it is in Peabody, Massachusetts. The chapel was originally operated by the Order of Carmelites and transitioned to the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate on February 1, 2016. The Carmelites of Mary Immaculate were founded in 1831 by Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara of India and now have ministries in 32 countries and multiple U.S. states. The chapel offers daily opportunities for Holy Mass, Reconciliation, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Anointing of the Sick, and Spiritual Direction. A Catholic Gift Shop is located on the lower level near the entrance adjacent to Not Your Average Joe's Restaurant.
