Trinity Episcopal Church is located in Independence, Missouri and is a member of the Diocese of West Missouri, part of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America. Founded in 1844 as the first Episcopal church in Jackson County, Missouri, the congregation constructed its current building in 1881, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The church is historically significant as the site where First Lady Bess Wallace Truman and President Harry S. Truman exchanged marriage vows on June 28, 1919. Trinity's mission is to welcome everyone to proclaim and live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ through word and example. The church operates The Mustard Seed Thrift Shop, with proceeds supporting community services and the Community Services League, an organization founded by Mrs. Truman in 1916. Trinity continues to raise up Jesus Christ to the surrounding community.
