About St Nicholas Orthodox Church

Located in Manchester, New Hampshire, St Nicholas Orthodox Church represents the Orthodox Christian tradition, one of the three major branches of Christianity alongside Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. The Orthodox Church emphasizes apostolic succession, sacramental worship, and the veneration of icons as windows to the divine. Visitors to an Orthodox church can expect a liturgical service conducted according to centuries-old traditions, featuring structured prayers, hymns, and ritual elements. The worship space typically includes iconostasis, an icon screen separating the sanctuary from the nave, and extensive use of incense and candlelight. Orthodox services tend to be lengthy and contemplative, often lasting two or more hours. The congregation participates actively in the liturgy through responses and singing. Orthodox Christians place significant importance on church tradition, the teachings of the early church fathers, and the role of the Virgin Mary and saints in Christian life.
