Menkir-Haila Kidanemehret Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is located in Rochester, New York. The church was established on January 17, 1999, by a small group of believers. The church's founding originated from discussions among Ethiopian community members at the 1998 Ethiopian Community annual picnic. Some mothers noted that if they were in Ethiopia, they would have already broken their fast on that day, while others questioned why they did not have their own church in Rochester. Following multiple meetings and discussions at different times and locations, the church was officially established at a meeting on February 17, 1999. At that meeting, the community approved draft bylaws and code of ethics, selected the church's leadership board, and adopted the name Kidanemehret Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
