Messiah Lutheran Church, founded in 1860, is located in downtown Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. As a member of the Lower Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the church operates under the ELCA motto of God's Work, Our Hands. The congregation welcomes all people regardless of race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, or relationship status, and is designated as a Reconciling in Christ congregation. The church operates the Ecumenical Food Pantry, which was founded in 1972 following Hurricane Agnes and serves over 2000 people monthly with support from volunteers representing over 50 churches in the Harrisburg area. The mission is to make real the life and love of Jesus Christ through faithful witness to God's word and welcoming all who share this vision.
