The George W. South Memorial Church of the Advocate is an Episcopal congregation located in North Central Philadelphia. For over a century, the church has served as a beacon of hope and community center. The Advocate is recognized as the first Episcopal Church in the world to ordain women. As an Open and Affirming Fellowship, the church fights for the dignity of all people and is dedicated to spiritual enrichment, human services, community programs, and social justice. The church provides meals and services to the homeless and working poor. The Advocate Center for Culture and Education operates after-school programs in collaboration with local and global organizations, offering meals, academics, art, theater, and athletics. A summer camp serves children and teenagers in the region. All programs operate under a code of conduct emphasizing tolerance and peaceful conflict resolution.
