St. Mary and St. Mercurius Coptic Orthodox Church of Greater Philadelphia is a Coptic Orthodox Church located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria is one of the most ancient churches in the world, founded by Saint Mark the Apostle in the first century. The word Coptic derives from the ancient Egyptian word Hekaptah, meaning Egypt. As a conservative church, the Coptic Church has preserved the Orthodox Christian Faith in its earliest and purest form, maintaining the Apostolic doctrines and patterns of worship unchanged through generations. The local parish was founded on January 6, 2010, and moved to its current location on June 26, 2016. The church is under the Diocese of Pennsylvania and Affiliated Regions, which was established on November 11, 2017, with the enthronement of His Grace Bishop Karas by Pope Tawadros II. The diocese currently includes Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia.
