Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church is located in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, and has been serving the community since its charter in 1924. The church is under the jurisdiction of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh, which falls under the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. The parish originated from Greek immigrants, primarily from the island of Icaria, who settled in the Oakmont-Verona area in the early 1900s. Initially gathering in rented spaces and worshipping at neighboring churches, the community formally established their church in 1922 and built their current facility on Washington Avenue in Oakmont in 1950. The church maintains various community programs including Greek School, publications, a bookstore, festival events, and banquet facilities. The church recently celebrated its centennial with a commemorative album documenting its 100-year history of faith, service, and community engagement.
