Established in 1959 by Southern Baptists from Ohio and West Virginia, it was the first Southern Baptist church founded in Pennsylvania. The church operates in cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Pennsylvania/South Jersey State Convention, and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Association of Southern Baptist churches. The church's vision focuses on providing opportunities for residents of the greater Pittsburgh area to experience Jesus Christ through the gospel. Church planting remains central to the church's mission, with over seventeen churches established from Pittsburgh Baptist Church during the past five decades. The congregation offers multiple worship services and educational programs for adults and children.
