Dormition Orthodox Mission

Dormition Orthodox Mission is an Orthodox Church in America parish serving the Rio Grande Valley under the Diocese of the South. The mission originates from St. George of Pharr, Texas, and serves Cameron County and surrounding areas including Brownsville, Bayview, San Benito, Los Fresnos, Port Isabel, South Padre Island, Laguna Vista, Starbase, and Rio Hondo. The church is named after the Dormition of the Mother of God, commemorating the faithful passing of the Virgin Mary. Currently worshipping in a temporary location at Trinity on the Border chapel while working to acquire land and build a permanent Orthodox temple in the region. The community welcomes both those already Orthodox and those exploring Christianity.
