St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Forane Church in Garland, Texas is the first Catholic church of the Syro-Malabar Rite established outside India in North America. The church traces its spiritual roots to AD 50 when St. Thomas the Apostle arrived in India. Established as a parish in 1992 with its own church building in Garland, it was later elevated to Forane Church status. The church is part of the Eparchy of St. Thomas of Chicago, with Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt serving as head. The parish serves approximately 470 families and offers faith formation classes from Pre-K through high school, along with thirteen active ministries. Services are conducted in both Malayalam and English, and the church provides various sacraments including Holy Qurbana, reconciliation, baptism, confirmation, marriage, and anointing of the sick.
