Sacred Heart Croatian Catholic Church in Milwaukee has served its community for more than 100 years, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and emphasizing His love and mercy. The parish was incorporated on April 4, 1917, with Fr. Placid Belavic as its first pastor. Originally located at 7th and Galena, the church relocated to its current site at 49th and Wells after World War II, celebrating its first Mass there in November 1949. The parish expanded with a parish hall in 1956 and Sacred Heart Elementary School in 1957. Following the Second Vatican Council, the church began offering Masses in both Croatian and English with increased lay participation. The parish maintains active committees and ministries focused on parish life, faith formation, liturgical preparation, and grounds maintenance.
