Matthew 6 is about rival paychecks: the quick wage of public
Matthew 6:5–15
Matthew 6 treats public acclaim and financial security as the same addiction: both are “wages” that pay you back immediately and therefore train you to stop needing the Father. Jesus’ cure is secrecy and “daily bread”—practices that deliberately make you non-self-justifying and non-self-insured, because you cannot serve God while using people’s praise and tomorrow’s provisions as your backup saviors.
