The Good Samaritan

Luke 10:25-37

And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

Jesus is approached by a lawyer in Jericho who asks how to inherit eternal life. Jesus responds by quoting the law, emphasizing love for God and neighbor. The lawyer seeks justification and asks, 'Who is my neighbor?' Jesus tells the story of a man beaten by thieves, ignored by a priest and Levite, but helped by a Samaritan.

The Samaritan tends to the injured man's wounds, cleans them with oil and wine, carries him to an inn, and pays for his care. The next day, he leaves additional money with the innkeeper to cover any extra expenses.
