📖 Psalm 22:1 - "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
Psalm 22 plunges the reader into a battlefield where armed men surround David and mock his God. Behind them stalk wild dogs and roaring lions waiting to attack. The attackers shake their heads and sneer, demanding that the Lord rescue him if he truly delights in his servant. They pierce his hands and his feet, then strip him of his garments and stare at his ruined body. David's bones pull apart and his heart melts like wax inside his chest. Heaven stays silent while he screams into the darkness.
This psalm captures the moment when God removes his protection and leaves his servant to face death alone. Jewish scholars memorized these words long before Christ spoke them from the cross. Christ quoted this exact declaration in Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34. The people standing below the cross heard him and knew he was pointing back to David.
