2 Meqabyan 2:1-11
1The prophet called Re'ay told him this: Rejoice today for a little while during your celebrations; but the Lord, whom Israel glorified, shall take revenge and destroy you in the punishment you did not doubt.
2Will you say, My horses are swift, and therefore I will escape by running?
3I tell you: the people who follow you are swifter than vultures. You will not escape from the Lord's judgment and the destruction that shall come upon you.
4Will you say, I wear iron clothes, so spears and bows cannot hurt me? The Lord who honors Israel said: It is not by spears that I will take revenge and destroy you. He told him, I shall bring upon you heart sickness, itching, and rheumatism - sicknesses worse and firmer than the throw of a spear or the sting of a bow. Yet even by these things, I will not finish My revenge.
5You have aroused My anger. I shall bring heart sickness upon you; you will lack anyone to help you, and you will not escape from My authority until I destroy the memory of your name from this world.
6Because you hardened your mind and elevated yourself over My country, when I quickly do this thing in the blink of an eye, you will know that I was your Creator. You are before Me like grass before the wind that fire consumes, and like the dust that the wind scatters from the earth.
7For you have aroused My anger and did not acknowledge your Creator; I shall neglect all your kindred, and I will not spare anyone who approaches your fortress.
8And now, turn away from all the sin you have committed. If you turn from your sin and seek peace in mourning and sadness before the Lord - if you beg Him with a clean mind - the Lord will forgive you all the sins you committed before Him.
9At that time, Meqabees wore dust and mourned before the Lord because of his sin, for the Lord was angry with him.
10For His eyes are revealed and He does not withhold; His ears are opened and He does not neglect. He does not make the word He spoke false, and He performs it quickly, for the Lord knew He would not hold back the punishment He spoke through the prophet's word.
11He cast off his clothes, wore sackcloth, sprinkled dust on his head, and cried and wept before his Creator, the Lord, because of the sin he had committed.
