Penwortham Bridge Methodist Church

Preston, England

Penwortham Bridge Methodist Church is located on Leyland Road in Penwortham, Preston, England. The church traces its origins to a chapel built on Pear Tree Brow in 1813, which was rebuilt in 1833. The current building was opened in 1910 on its present site in Middleforth to accommodate the growing congregation. The church takes its name from a nearby bridge dating back to 1750, which was historically the lowest bridging point of the River Ribble. The church has faced periodic flooding threats due to its proximity to the river and underwent extensive flood defence works, temporarily closing before reopening for worship in March 2023. The foundation stone from the original Wesleyan Chapel is incorporated into the church's front perimeter wall.
