Mark 9:24

The crowd presses in around a boy writhing on the ground, his jaw locked, his body thrown into fire and water by a destructive spirit. The father had brought him to the disciples first, and they had failed. Now Jesus stands before him, and the man hears the challenge: all things are possible to him who believes. The weight of years of watching his son suffer crashes into the demand for faith. He cannot pretend. He cannot manufacture certainty. He opens his mouth and lets the contradiction stand.

This declaration costs the father every pretense of composure. He could have walked away after the disciples failed his son, but instead he names the fracture inside himself. He admits that belief and unbelief live together in his heart, and then he hands both to Jesus. The boy is healed that very hour. This moment stands as one of the most honest prayers in Scripture, proving that faith need not be flawless to be heard.
