Song of Solomon 8:6

A woman speaks to the man she loves. She demands to be sealed onto him like a mark pressed into wax, permanent and undeniable. In the ancient world a seal was the sign of ownership and authority, stamped into documents and carved into rings. She asks for nothing less than to be carved into his body. Then she names the force behind her demand. Love grips as hard as the grave. Jealousy burns like a fire no flood could drown. She stakes everything on a bond that will not release and will not share.

This is the most unflinching portrait of love in Scripture. The woman names what every lover fears, that the same flame which warms can also consume. Paul echoes this invincible logic centuries later in Romans 8:38-39, declaring that neither death nor any power can separate us from the love of God.
