Exodus 33:18

Exodus 33:18

Today's verse comes from the Book of Exodus. Israel worshipped a golden calf and God threatened withdrawal. Moses pleads for assurance and asks God to reveal His glory.

18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.

Smoke rises from a shattered idol after thousands died worshipping a golden calf. Now God threatens to leave the people entirely because of their rebellion. Moses stands alone and pleads with God to remember His covenant promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. God relents and agrees to journey with Israel. But Moses presses further and asks for something no mortal has ever requested. He wants to see God face to face and receive visible proof of God's presence.
