Genesis 18:25

Genesis 18:25

Today's verse comes from the Book of Genesis. Abraham stands before God as Sodom faces destruction. Abraham risks his standing before God to challenge divine judgment.

25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

Abraham stands before the Lord near his tent at Mamre when three visitors reveal that Sodom will burn and his nephew Lot lives there with his family. Abraham walks closer and begins to bargain by asking if God will spare the city for fifty good people. Then he lowers the number again and again until he reaches his boldest moment when he appeals to God's own character. He tells God it would be wrong to sweep away the good with the bad. He is questioning the Almighty himself.
