John 13:4-5

John 13:4-5

Today's verse comes from the Book of John. A teacher rises from the table and strips off his outer garment. He pours water into a basin and washes the dusty feet of his guests.

4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

A man rises from a meal and strips off his outer garment. He grabs a linen towel and wraps it around his waist. He lifts a clay pitcher and pours water into a stone basin. He kneels on the stone floor. He grips a man's ankle, lifts the bare foot, and plunges it into the basin. He rubs away the caked dust. He pulls the towel from his waist and dries the wet skin. He moves to the next man and repeats the action. He works his way around the room until every foot is clean.
