Enoch 90:1-42

Enoch witnesses thirty-seven, then twenty-three shepherds failing to protect sheep from predatory birds and beasts; a ram with a great horn arises to...

And I saw until, in such a time, thirty-seven shepherds were pasturing them; and they all completed their times like the former ones, and others received them into their hands to pasture them in their times, each shepherd in his own time.

And after this I saw in the vision that all the birds of heaven came—eagles and vultures and kites and ravens; and the eagles were leading all the birds, and they began to devour those sheep, and to peck out their eyes and to devour their flesh.

And the sheep cried out, because their flesh was being devoured by the birds; and I too cried out and lamented in my sleep over that shepherd who was pasturing the sheep.

And I saw until those sheep were devoured by the dogs and by the eagles and by the kites, and they left them neither flesh nor skin nor sinew, until only their bones stood; and their bones too fell upon the earth, and the sheep became few.

And I saw until, in such a time, twenty-three shepherds were pasturing, and they completed in their times fifty-eight times.

And small lambs were born from those white sheep, and they began to open their eyes and to see and to cry out to the sheep.

But the sheep did not cry out to them, nor did they give ear to what they said to them; rather, they were exceedingly deaf, and their eyes were blinded exceedingly and mightily.

And I saw in the vision that the ravens flew upon those lambs, and seized one of those lambs, and dashed the sheep in pieces and devoured them.

And I saw until horns came forth upon those lambs, and the ravens were casting down their horns. And I saw until one great horn sprang up on one of those sheep, and their eyes were opened.

And he looked upon them, and their eyes were opened, and he cried out to the sheep, and the rams saw him and all ran to him.

And besides all this, those eagles and vultures and ravens and kites kept tearing the sheep in pieces and flying down upon them and devouring them; and the sheep were silent, but the rams lamented and cried out.

And those ravens strove and battled with him and sought to make his horn fall, but they did not prevail against him.

And I saw them until the shepherds came, and the eagles and those vultures and kites, and they cried to the ravens that they should break the horn of that ram; and they battled with him and fought against him, and he battled with them and cried out that his help might come to him.

And I saw until that man came who wrote down the names of the shepherds and brought them up before the Lord of the sheep; and he helped him and showed him everything: his help came down for that ram.

And I saw until that Lord of the sheep came to them in wrath, and all who saw him fled, and they all fell into his shadow from before his face.

All the eagles and vultures and ravens and kites were gathered together and brought with them all the sheep of the field; and they all came together and aided one another to break that horn of the ram.

And I saw that man who wrote the book at the word of the Lord, until he opened that book of destruction which those last twelve shepherds had wrought, and showed that they had destroyed far more than those before them, before the Lord of the sheep.

And I saw until the Lord of the sheep came unto them and took in his hand the staff of wrath and smote the earth; and the earth was split, and all the beasts and the birds of heaven fell away from those sheep and were sunk in the earth, and it was covered over them.

And I saw until a great sword was given to the sheep, and the sheep went forth against all those beasts of the field to slay them; and all the beasts and the birds of heaven fled from before their face.

And I saw until a throne was erected in the pleasant land, and the Lord of the sheep sat upon it, and he took all the sealed books and opened those books before the Lord of the sheep.

And the Lord called those seven first white ones, and commanded that they should bring before him, beginning with the first star which went before those stars whose members were as the members of horses, and that first star which had fallen first—and they brought them all before him.

And he said to that man who wrote before him, who was one of those seven white ones, he said to him: 'Take those seventy shepherds to whom I delivered the sheep; for they, having taken them, slew many more than I commanded them.'

And behold, I saw them all bound, and they all stood before him.

And the judgment was held first upon the stars, and they were judged and found guilty, and they went to the place of condemnation, and they cast them into a deep place, full of fire flaming and full of pillars of fire.

And those seventy shepherds were judged and found guilty, and they were cast into that fiery abyss.

And I saw at that time how one abyss was opened in the midst of the earth, full of fire, and they brought those blinded sheep, and they were all judged and found guilty and cast into that fiery abyss, and they burned; and this abyss was on the right of that house.

And I saw those sheep burning, and their bones also burning.

And I stood up to see, until they folded up that old house, and they carried away all the pillars, and all the beams and adornment of that house were folded up with it; and they carried it out and set it in one place at the right of the land.

And I saw the Lord of the sheep until he brought a new house, greater and loftier than that first one, and he set it up in the place of the first one which had been folded up; and all its pillars were new, and its adornment new and greater than that of the former, the old one which he had removed; and all the sheep were within it.

And I saw all the sheep that were left, and all the beasts upon the earth, and all the birds of heaven, falling down and doing homage to those sheep and making petition to them and obeying them in every word.

And thereafter those three who were clothed in white and had formerly led me up seized me by my hand, and the hand of that ram also taking hold of me, they raised me up and set me down in the midst of those sheep before the judgment took place.

And those sheep were all white, and their wool was abundant and clean.

And all that had been destroyed and scattered, and all the beasts of the field, and all the birds of heaven, were gathered together in that house, and the Lord of the sheep rejoiced with great joy because they had all become good and had returned to his house.

And I saw until they laid down that sword which had been given to the sheep, and they brought it back into his house, and it was sealed before the presence of the Lord; and all the sheep were enclosed in that house, and it did not contain them.

And the eyes of them all were opened, and they saw the good, and there was not one among them that did not see.

And I saw that that house was large and broad and exceedingly full.

And I saw that a white bull was born, and its horns were great, and all the beasts of the field and all the birds of heaven feared him and made petition to him at all times.

And I saw until all their kindred were transformed, and they all became white bulls; and the first among them became a word, and that word became a great beast, and it had upon its head great and black horns; and the Lord of the sheep rejoiced over them and over all the bulls.

And I lay down in the midst of them, and I awoke and saw everything.

This is the vision which I saw while I slept; and I awoke and blessed the Lord of righteousness, and gave him glory.

Then thereafter I wept a great weeping, and my tears did not stay, until I could no longer endure it when I beheld; they flowed down because of that which I had seen, for everything shall come to pass and be fulfilled, and all the deeds of men in their several portions were shown to me.

And on that night I remembered my former dream, and because of it I wept and was troubled, because I had seen that vision.
